Wondery

There is no one kind of Wondery listener. Each show tells a unique story that requires full immersion to capture its tone and reach its audience, so when the creative shows up in the world, it doesn't just look right — it feels right. Every solution below was carefully crafted to capture the show's essence and accurately cue listeners into its subject matter, maximizing engagement. The work has driven real results — many of these podcasts hit number one on the charts and beat TPE goals.

In early 2024, I spearheaded a comprehensive reset of our operations — streamlining systems, strengthening cross-functional alignment, and guiding agency reviews and the RFP process. As Senior Creative Director, I oversee a diverse network of agencies, illustrators, creative directors, art directors, and animators, ensuring cohesive execution across all creative touchpoints. At the heart of this transformation is a renewed creative strategy that champions clarity, impact, and visual storytelling designed to cut through the noise — especially at the smallest sizes where attention is hardest to earn. AI has been seamlessly integrated into our workflow alongside traditional executions, enhancing our ability to deliver impactful solutions cost-effectively.

The Process: Lawless Planet

On Lawless Planet, a limited narrative podcast, I applied my typical creative process from start to finish. The final art was designed to stand out in crowded feeds, using bold shapes and bright color that remained clear and impactful even at the smallest thumbnail sizes. To get there, I built a detailed creative brief that laid out the schedule, included only the most relevant background information, provided access to pilot episodes, and outlined creative direction along with a guide to designing at scale. I also profiled our illustrator, Eiko Ojala, to align his style with the project’s needs. From there, we reviewed early sketch rounds that explored different directions before honing in on the final approach, ensuring every element was both strategically sound and visually striking.

All aspects of the project, from timelines to tone/style and even social-first guidelines, were included.

Round 1

We took our time exploring a range of solutions in sketch form before committing ourselves to any comping or color work. This stage was crucial to winning support from senior management, placing us on solid ground for Round 2.

Case Study: Reclaiming

Reclaiming is an interview-based podcast where Lewinsky explores the idea of “reclamation”—the act of taking back something lost, stolen, or silenced—through intimate, empathetic conversations with guests ranging from actors and writers to activists and public figures. Drawing from her own experience of reclaiming her narrative after years of public scrutiny, Lewinsky creates a safe, vulnerable space where people share deeply personal stories about identity, resilience, and transformation. Rather than offering prescriptive advice, the show emphasizes honest dialogue and human connection, with each episode ending by asking guests what they are still striving to reclaim.

We worked closely with Monica from the earliest stages of pre-production straight through to the podcast’s release and beyond to establish her as a warm, approachable presence.

Upon release, Reclaiming more than doubled its total plays and engagement goal.

Revising The Creative Process

When I joined Wondery, one of my main focuses was to assess and overhaul the existing creative process. I interviewed key stakeholders across teams and built a new system from the ground up—one that was both standardized for all Content teams. The result was a cross-functional workflow with a dependable series of steps that shortened timelines, made delivery schedules reliable, and reduced costs across all projects. By implementing this new approach, we not only drove efficiency but also created a framework that consistently delivered high-quality creative work at lower cost and with far greater predictability than before. Below is the live deck I distributed and updated quarterly.
